GloRilla‘s debut studio album, Glorious, has earned the highest first-week sales of any album released by a female rapper in 2024.
Per Billboard, the project sold 69,000 equivalent album units within its first week of release, landing at No. 5 on the Billboard 200. Among the releases from female rappers this year were Glo’s frequent collaborator Megan Thee Stallion, whose self-titled release sold 64,000 album-equivalent units in its first week; as well as Latto’s ‘Sugar Honey Iced Tea‘ which sold 29,000 album-equivalent units; Ice Spice’s first studio album, Y2K!, raked in 28,000 album-equivalent units, while Sexyy Red’s In Sexyy We Trust pushed 27,000 its first week.
Glo previously shared with Billboard of the album’s late arrival: “Last year, I was supposed to drop my debut album, but I was still just getting used to stuff and working a lot. When the top of the year came, I had the project basically done. I was like, ‘OK, I gotta give them the mixtape before I give them the album,’ because I went the whole year without dropping anything. That’s why I said I was gonna give them the mixtape first, get em’ back used to me first, give ’em a feel of me, and then that’s gonna prep me for the album. The mixtape did good and did what it was supposed to do, which prepped me for my album.”
Glorious features the hit single “TGIF,” “Hollon,” and more, with appearances from Latto, Sexyy Red, Muni Long, Kirk Franklin, Kierra Sheard, Chandler Moore, Megan Thee Stallion, BossMan Dlow, T-Pain, and Fridayy.
