Bruce Springsteen, Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong, Lucinda Williams and Elvis Costello, Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello and the Hold Steady are among the artists set to cover songs by New York singer/songwriter Jesse Malin for a new tribute album Silver Patron Saints: The Songs of Jesse Malin.

Proceeds from the project, arriving Sept. 20, will benefit Malin‘s ongoing recovery efforts from the May 2023 spinal stroke that left him paralyzed from the waist down. Malin, formerly the frontman of cult NYC bands Heart Attack and D Generation, suffered a spinal-cord infarction while dining with friends at a New York restaurant last spring.

Silver Patron Saints: The Songs Of Jesse Malin will feature artists coming together to cover the New York singer-songwriter’s music and raise money for his Sweet Relief artist fund. The album’s first single, Bleachers’ “Prisoners of Paradise,” is out now, with a post on social media reading: “Prisoners of Paradise is out now. I’m so excited about this version, it means so much to me. I love @bleachersmusic ‘s take on the song. Cover photo by @lithophyte” Take listen to Prisoners of Paradise: here.

A fundraising campaign was launched to help pay his medical bills via Sweet Relief, a charity that assists musicians facing physical or mental health issues: “Jesse is going through so much physically and emotionally,” campaign organizers shared. “His insurance is good but it will not cover many of his expenses beyond acute care. Your donation can help relieve him of the added pressures associated with the enormous expense of his immediate and long term care.”
