Remy Ma‘s son, Jayson Scott, 23, has been arrested and charged with first degree murder. Police arrested Scott and Richard Swygert, 22, on Tuesday (June 18) for their alleged roles in the fatal shooting of Darius Guillebeaux, 47. The NYPD states that there was a dispute on June 7, 2021 that resulted in the death of Guillebeaux, who was gunned down in broad daylight in Queens, NY. Authorities investigated the shooting as a potential murder-for-fire.
According to FOX 5 New York, Scott and Swygert also faced weapon possession and reckless endangerment charges. Scott was hit with an additional charge of second-degree murder. In a statement, the NYPD shared, “Upon arrival, officers observed a 47-year-old male, unconscious and unresponsive, with multiple gunshot wounds to the head and chest. EMS responded to the location and transported the victim to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased. The victim had been arrested 13 times and spent three terms behind bars serving time twice for drug charges and once for robbery. Guillebeaux’s last prison stint ended when he was released on parole in 2017.
Dawn M. Florio, an attorney representing Remy Ma (real name Reminisce Smith) released a statement after the charges were announced: “As many have heard, Remy Ma’s son, Jayson Scott, was recently arrested and very serious unfounded allegations have been made. Remy Ma wished to address this situation personally, but has been strongly advised by our office not to say anything publicly – as most people in this situation are, as the case is still active. Nevertheless, Remy Ma is committed to proving Jayson’s innocence and supporting her child during this time. We stand by Jayson’s innocence and hope the NYPD will conduct a complete and thorough investigation to reveal the truth. This has undoubtedly been a trying time for Remy Ma and her family. While she sincerely appreciates the love and support she has received, we kindly ask that her privacy be respected as our legal team works to prove Jayson’s innocence.”
Remy Ma herself served six years in prison after being found guilty on assault, weapons, and attempted coercion charges stemming from the shooting of an acquaintance outside a Manhattan nightclub in 2007. Jason, also known as “Jace Smith” appeared in several episodes of Love & Hip: New York alongside his mother.
