Today, August 22nd, through next Tuesday, August 29th, as temps approach (and top) 100 degrees, with heat indexes climbing even further into the 100s, the City of Albany has activated “Operation Safe Place” to provide cooling stations for anyone in need of relief.

The Albany Transportation Center, 300 W Oglethorpe Blvd., will be open daily from 7am to 8pm, except Sunday, when the hours will be 11am to 8pm.
The Dougherty County Public Library Central Branch, 300 Pine Avenue, will be open Tuesday and Wednesday this week and Monday and Tuesday next week from 10am to 8pm. on Thursday and Friday, the branch will open at 10am and close at 6pm. On Saturday, the hours will be 10am to 5pm and on Sunday, the hours will be 2pm to 6pm.
The Northwest Library Branch, 2507 Dawson Road, will have the same hours as the Central Branch, except the Northwest Branch will not be open on Sunday and will close at 6pm on Tuesday August 29th.
The Southside Library Branch, 2114 Habersham Road, will be open 10am to 6pm Tuesday and Wednesday this week and Monday and Tuesday next week. On Thursday, the hours will be 3pm to 6pm. On Saturday, the hours will be 10am to 2pm. The Southside Branch will be closed on Friday and Sunday.
Tallulah Massey Library Branch, 2004 Stratford Drive, will be open Tuesday through Friday this week and Monday and Tuesday next week from 10am to 6pm. The branch will open Saturday from 10am to 5pm and will be closed Sunday.
Westtown Library Branch, 2114 Waddell Avenue, will carry the same hours as the Southside Branch.
