Lisa Marie Presley, Elvis Presley’s only child, died Thursday at the age of 54. A family statement read: “Priscilla Presley and the Presley family are shocked and devastated by the tragic death of their beloved Lisa Marie. They are profoundly grateful for the support, love and prayers of everyone, and ask for privacy during this very difficult time.” Priscilla also confirmed the news in a statement to PEOPLE Thursday evening: “It is with a heavy heart that I must share the devastating news that my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us. She was the most passionate strong and loving woman I have ever known. We ask for privacy as we try to deal with this profound loss. Thank you for the love and prayers. At this time there will be no further comment.”
Presley was hospitalized Thursday morning after suffering cardiac arrest at her home in Calabasas, Calif. She was rushed to a hospital after paramedics performed CPR. According to TMZ, Presley’s ex-husband, Danny Keough, had been living with her and administered CPR before paramedics arrived. Presley’s death comes just two days after she attended the Golden Globes with her mother Priscilla Presley, which saw Austin Butler win the Golden Globe for his starring role in “Elvis” as best lead actor in a drama.
Presley’s parents divorced when she was 5, and her famous father died when she was 9. She inherited Elvis’s mansion, Graceland, and then inherited Presley’s entire estate when she turned 25. She sold 85% of the estate, which had an estimated value of $100 million when she inherited it, in 2005 to Industrial Media, but kept control of Graceland.
In October 1988, Lisa Marie married musician Danny Keough with whom she welcomed two children: daughter Riley in 1989 and son Benjamin in 1992. After five and a half years of marriage, the couple divorced in May 1994. Less than a month later, she married singer Michael Jackson; however two years later, Lisa Marie and Jackson ended their relationship. Presley married actor Nicolas Cage in 2002 in a secret ceremony in Hawaii on the 25th anniversary of Elvis’ death. However, less than four months after their wedding, the pair announced their split. Her fourth marriage came in 2006 to Michael Lockwood, with whom Lisa Marie welcomed twin daughters, Harper and Finley, in 2008. Lisa Marie filed for divorce from Lockwood in June 2016, which was finalized in 2021. In 2020, Presley’s son Benjamin Keough died by suicide from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at age 27.
